October 12, 2020

Good afternoon,

We want to begin with a HUGE thank you for teaming with us as we supported your child during his/her goal setting conference.  We have no doubt that our joint effort of encouraging and supporting our students will allow them to continue to thrive in all aspects of their lives. We received such great feedback from so many parents and staff members regarding our first every Zoom conferences.  We thank each of you for being a part of them albeit remotely.  We found the format worked very well for our students, families and staff.

Hybrid In-Person Learning Model

We are looking forward to welcoming our hybrid students back to in-person instruction during the week of October 19th.

Here are a few details for families who chose the Hybrid In-Person Learning Model:

  • You will receive an email from me on Tuesday at 4:00 with your child’s attendance days: either Group A on Monday/Thursday or Group B on Tuesday/Friday. Please note, due to a variety of factors, we will not be able to change your child’s assigned group.
  • Drive Thru PICK-Up of Self Certification Screener Cards and Bus Passes:  For all students attending Hybrid, we will have a drive through pick-up on Thursday, October 15th from 3:00 – 4:30.  Please have your child’s last name on a sheet of paper to hold up for our staff.  If you are unable to come on Thursday, you may come between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday.  Please ring the bell on Friday and we will bring your child’s materials out to you.

District 54 Reopening Plan

Additional details can be found in the Reopening D54 Plan (Spanish Reopening D54 Plan). We have also created a Reopening District 54 Video, which can be shared with your children to help them better visualize the school day. A Spanish Video is also available.  Please contact the Aldrin Main Office at 847-357-5400 if you have specific questions.

Cook County Travel Quarantine List

There are a number of nearby states on the Cook County travel quarantine list that have been identified as “hot spot states”. Any person entering Cook County after visiting one of these high-incidence states for more than 24 hours must quarantine for 14 days after returning home.  For students enrolled in hybrid instruction, this would mean they must attend school remotely during the quarantine period.  Your child’s attendance would be considered “present” when learning remotely during a travel quarantine.  Please consult the Suburban Cook County Travel Quarantine List, and let your child’s teacher know if you plan to travel to any of the states listed.  Travel to a high-incidence state during this extended holiday weekend will require us to adjust your child’s start date for in-person learning.

Immunization and Health Requirements
At this time, all child-health related requirements for school attendance remain in effect as per Illinois School Code 105 ILCS 5/27-8.1.  These requirements are for all kindergarten and 6th grade students, and students new to District 54.   Letters were mailed to parents/guardians, which included your child’s missing immunization and/or health requirements. If you received one of these letters, please complete the requirements as soon as possible.

In order to protect individuals and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases and to prepare for the return to school, it is important to make appointments to resume necessary health related examinations and immunization requirements.  Health-related examinations and immunization requirements are due no later than October 19, 2020.

Any student lacking the proper documentation by October 19, 2020 (the start of in-person learning), will be excluded from in-person learning until proper documentation is provided and approved by the Nurse.

Required documentation can be faxed to Aldrin at 847-357-6401 or emailed to [email protected].  Please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Lockner if you have any questions!

Friday, October 16th

District 54 will provide an asynchronous day of learning on Friday, October 16th.  This day will focus on activities based on the book I Am Human by well-known author Susan Verde and Art by Peter H. Reynolds.  Their book, I Am Human, is a book about embracing empathy and the potential of each day. This book and the activities for the day, encourage us to make good choices by acting with compassion and having empathy for ourselves and others. The social-emotional lesson activities will focus on being The Best Version of Me! Students will be able to select activities that support their social-emotional well-being. Our school will also have a padlet where students can share a picture, post or video of their work from the day.  The interactive link for activities will be sent to you on Friday, October 16th.

This day will focus on how we learn, dream, and wonder to be the best version of ourselves. We hope you’ll join us to share how you’re connected to your friends, your family, your school, and your community. After all, we are all humans together!

Attendance

Please be sure to call our attendance line at 847-357-5402 if your child is going to be absent from V-Learning. We are required by the state to take daily attendance. If we don’t hear from a parent, our secretaries are required to call your home to ensure everything is ok with your child.
