It has been truly amazing seeing our children back in the building this past week. Nothing melts our hearts more than to see their eyes light up as they tell us they had the best day ever. Even though we are unable to see the smile under their masks, the twinkle in their eyes show the joy they feel in their hearts. We are looking forward to solidifying dates to increase the time in the building in the very near future.
Please keep in mind for safety reasons, our parking lot is closed to cars from 8:20 – 8:35 each morning as well as 2:50-3:10 in the afternoon. If you come before these times, we ask you to remain in your parking spot until all buses have left our lot. Also, in an effort to provide safe distance for our students, please say good-bye to your child prior to entering school grounds. We also ask you to have a pre-determined pick-up spot at the end of the day off school property.
Remote Only Students – Confirming MAP Testing
Last week, all remote learning families received a letter in the U.S. mail regarding the day your child is due to come into the building to take the MAP test. If you have not already done so, please contact your child’s teacher by the end of the day to confirm your child’s availability to come into the building. The letter we sent has all the pertinent information regarding the testing session as well as arrival and dismissal procedures.
Student-led Conference Sign-up
As you know, our winter conferences will take place via Zoom on February 11th and 12th. This Wednesday, January 27, you will receive an email from me with a link to sign-up for your specific conference time. Please be sure to open the link and complete all the steps to secure your time.
SEL Parent Survey
District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send all families an email link for each child to the D54 Social Emotional Learning Survey on Monday, Jan. 25. Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.
Activity for Non-Attendance day – Wednesday, January 27
As we take off into a brand new year, we’d like to invite you all to join us on D54 Airways as we embark on yet another asynchronous day for our students! Come Fly With Us! We are excited to share The Great D54 Paper Airplane Challenge with all of you! Your boarding pass will allow you access on the morning of January 27th to the site and the activities created for our students. Our school will also have a padlet where students can share a picture, post or video of their work from the day. The interactive link for activities will be sent by your child’s teacher on the morning of Wednesday, January 27th.

Food Pantry – Available to any family in need
The Lakeview Food Pantry is open and ready to serve ALL Aldrin families. Although you will not be able to come into the pantry due to COVID restrictions, you will be able to easily place an order online and pick it up at Lakeview School. Dressing for Cold Weather
We make every effort each day to get students outside for fresh air, a mask break and of course for fun. We do monitor the wind chill and temperature to insure this can be done safely. As long as the wind chill reading is above 0, we will get the children outside. Since we continue to put mitigations in place to keep our students at a safe distance, we do ask that you make sure your child has boots and mittens/gloves for recess. When we separate classrooms at recess, we utilize the grassy area which is currently covered with snow. 2021-2022 Kindergarten Registration:
District 54 will hold kindergarten registration for the 2021-22 school year by appointment only starting Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
Families must begin the process by completing an online registration (starting January 25th) prior to securing an appointment.If you have a student currently enrolled in District 54, you can register your incoming kindergartener through your Parent Portal account. Families new to District 54 can register through the link on our website (http://sd54.org/registration).
Once your online registration is complete, you will be contacted by an Aldrin secretary to schedule your in-person appointment to complete your student’s registration. If you have any questions, please contact the Aldrin office at 847-357-5400.

Upcoming Reproductive System Unit for Intermediate Students:
Our fourth, fifth, and sixth grade families will be receiving a pre-recorded link to the Reproductive System webinar on Friday, January 29th. This link will be available through Friday, February 5th for your viewing. This webinar will provide you information around the Reproductive System Unit that includes sexual education material. This webinar will be accompanied by a Frequently Asked Question page to support the materials our intermediate students will be receiving soon. If your child did not receive this unit last year due to the pandemic, an in depth review of last year’s information will also be provided.

News from the Aldrin PTA
As you all know, our 2021-2022 PTA Election is right around the corner. The Nominating committee is seeking nominations for the following positions: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer. Each position is a one year term with an individual serving no more than three consecutive terms in any office.
We are looking for the best qualified people to make our PTA one of the Best PTA’s in our District. Your nomination will be handled confidentially.
Below is a PDF with a general description of each position. If you would like to nominate any individual, please first ask them if they would indeed like to be nominated. If you would like to nominate yourself, please do so. All information regarding the process is included the the attachment below.
The 2021-2022 Aldrin Nominating Committee consists of Executive Board Members Lisa Reck (Chair), Lori Dempsey, Julie Oroni, Sara Hanson, Sarah Popp (alternate). General Members will be Melissa Carpenter and Laura Nickels (alternate).

We are currently working on increasing our PTA membership for the 2020/21 school year. As many of you know, our PTA works tirelessly behind the scenes to support our students. Over the years, our PTA has allowed us to offer planners, folders, birthday books, assemblies, parties and so much more. This year, we are already formulating ways to make connections between our Aldrin families in more of a virtual way.
