January 11, 2021

Good morning,

Happy New Year!  On behalf of the Aldrin staff, we would like to thank you for supporting your children during our first week of instruction in 2021. Their smiles melted our hearts. We are all looking forward to seeing the children back in the halls and classrooms of Aldrin School, and we are very hopeful 2021 will allow all 520 of our students to be there at one time. Please read below for important information for our families.

Return to In-Person Learning:
We are excited to welcome our hybrid students back into the building over the next two weeks.  The students in our Instructional Classrooms will return the week of January 11 and the students in our General Education Classrooms will return the week of January 19. The children will follow the same schedule that was in place prior to the adaptive pause.

In preparation for that day, we encourage you to review the the following:

Please keep in mind, any individual, staff or student, who shows any signs or symptoms of illness must stay home. Anyone who begins to exhibit a fever or COVID-19 like symptoms while at school will be sent to the school nurse. Students will wait in a quarantine room until they are picked up from school. Quarantined students may participate in remote learning as long as they are feeling up to it. School District 54 has revised the Staff and Student Exclusion Chart to be in alignment with guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Please click on the links below:

Winter In-Person NWEA MAP Assessment

This winter, we will test 2nd through 6th grade students using the NWEA MAP assessment tool.  The week of February 1, this computer-based assessment will be administered to all students in those grade levels. Testing for these students will take place in-person at Aldrin School.

The purpose of the assessment is to inform teachers of the immediate instructional needs of students. MAP results equip educators with key data to help personalize instruction and pinpoint individual student needs.

All students currently enrolled in the hybrid model will test during a regularly scheduled attendance day. We will have two testing days, one for students attending on Mondays/Thursdays (Group A) and a second day for students attending on Tuesdays/Fridays (Group B). Below is the testing schedule where your child will complete the reading test in the morning and the math test in the afternoon. Please note, during the week of testing, all children will have one day of asynchronous activities which are designed to cement learning. Your child’s teacher will communicate the specific date of these activities in an upcoming communication.

Fully remote students will be asked to come into the building to complete the MAP test. Since fully remote children do not have transportation set up, parents will need to provide transportation on the given testing date. If you have more than one child at Aldrin, we have arranged to have all of your children test on the same day.  Your child’s specific testing day will be sent out in the U.S. mail on January 15. In this communication, you will receive the following information:

  • Specific testing date
  • Arrival and dismissal times/procedures to allow for social distancing
  • Confirming your child’s attendance at the assigned session (confirmation needs to be provided no later than January 25)
  • Safety protocols
  • Materials your child will need to bring on testing day
  • Lunch/Recess protocol
  •

Additional Important Details on the Winter MAP Assessment:

  • Students will test in group sizes of 10 or less with a minimum of 6 feet of social distance.
  • Masks will be required.
  • Parents or caregivers of remote only students will be responsible for transporting students to and from school on their testing day/time.
  • Students will complete both the literacy and math MAP test on the same day.
  • MAP testing does require great focus and stamina on the part of the students; therefore on the days your child is testing there will not be additional instruction.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher for more details.
